Complete guide
Who can use it
- One rider and the pillion assigned to that rider inside the same active Group Ride.
- The ride lead must first give the person the Pillion role and choose whose pillion they are.
- Both people need separate supported phones. Solo riders and unpaired group members do not see the pair control.
- It is for one motorcycle pair, not a voice channel for the whole group.
Prepare both phones
- Join the same ride room and keep both phones near each other.
- Turn on Wi-Fi. On Android, also keep Location or Nearby Wi-Fi Devices available when requested.
- Allow Pothik to use the Microphone and Nearby Devices. On iPhone, allow Local Network when the system asks.
- Connect a Bluetooth helmet headset before starting if you have one. Otherwise Pothik uses the phone speaker and microphone.
- Raise the communication volume and test everything while the motorcycle is parked.
Assign the rider and pillion
- The lead opens the rider list in the ride room.
- The lead taps the passenger’s role, chooses Pillion, then selects the correct rider.
- The pair should now appear together. The intercom switch is shown under the pillion’s name for those two people.
Connect on Android
- On both phones, open the rider list and turn on Rider–pillion intercom.
- Read the connection guide, allow Microphone, Nearby Devices and Location if requested, then tap Open Wi-Fi Direct.
- In Wi-Fi Direct, choose the other phone. Accept the connection request on that phone.
- Return to Pothik on both phones and keep the ride room open until both show Connected.
- Check whether the label says Bluetooth audio or Phone audio, then speak normally to test it.
Connect on iPhone
- Turn on the intercom switch on both phones and allow Microphone and Local Network access if asked.
- Keep both phones close. Pothik searches for the assigned pair automatically.
- Wait until both phones show Connected, then test the Bluetooth or phone audio route.
Use it during the ride
- There is no push-to-talk button. Speak normally when you need to talk.
- Pothik sends speech while trying to reduce steady wind and background noise; helmet and microphone position still matter.
- When voice arrives, the phone may temporarily lower music or other audio, then restore it after the speech ends.
- Bluetooth audio is selected automatically when supported; otherwise sound uses the phone speaker and microphone.
- Keep Pothik running. On Android, an Intercom active notification may remain while the voice link is enabled.
Status and quick fixes
- Waiting for your pillion: confirm the lead assigned the pair and both people turned on the switch.
- Wi-Fi Direct is off: turn on Wi-Fi and reconnect the two phones from Wi-Fi Direct settings.
- Permission needed: open Pothik permissions and allow Microphone, Nearby Devices and Location where required.
- Connecting: keep the phones close, return to the ride room and wait. If needed, turn the switch off and on while parked.
- Connected but no sound: raise call or media volume, check the displayed audio route, and reconnect the Bluetooth headset.
- Audio unavailable or Unavailable: the phone may not support the required connection or audio route. Use another communication method.
Turn it off and privacy
- After parking, turn off the intercom switch. You can also turn off Pothik Intercom from More.
- The voice link is direct between the paired phones. Pothik does not upload or save the conversation.
- The microphone sends voice only when intercom is enabled, the assigned pair is connected and speech is detected.
- The voice connection itself does not use an online voice server, but live ride-room features still need mobile data.
RememberComplete all setup while parked. Phone support varies, so keep another emergency communication method.
